I had temporary custody of my older grandson beginning January 2015 due to a CPS case. Reunification was attempted giving my daughter several extensions. My daughter gave birth to a second child January of 2017 with a different father during reunification efforts. A second CPS case was opened in August of 2017 with my younger grandson. I took temporary custody of him too. When my daughter and second daddy did not comply or show up to court proceedings, the judge pretty much immediately gave me legal custody of baby. Within a couple months, they also awarded me legal custody of the first child. This was after close to 2 1/2 years of failed reunification attempts. If I couldn’t or wouldn’t take legal custody, the boys would have been taken by the state. How does this affect me? Now that I have legal custody? Thank you for clarification.
